Cardinal Cadence is a full-color magazine published by the Division of University Advancement and mailed to more than 65,000 households.
Through the magazine, the division seeks to inform the Lamar community with news about the university and its alumni. The pages of Cadence support the activities and objectives of advancement, including the Alumni Office and the Lamar University Foundation.
The first publication to carry the name Cardinal Cadence appeared in 1961 as a four-page newsletter. In April 1970, it was stepped up to magazine format and ran until 1989 as a 24-page black-and-white publication. During this period, the magazine served as a primary news source about Lamar by carrying not only alumni news and information, but also significant news about the university. The last issue of Cardinal Cadence was published in the winter of the 1988-89 academic year, when the LU Alumni Association switched again to newsletters.
Ten years later, during its 75th anniversary year, Lamar began publishing Cardinal Cadence again as a magazine, picking up with Vol. 27 No. 1.
Cardinal Cadence is available online. Limited copies of some issues may be available. You may request a copy by contacting the editor at (409) 880-8421 or by email.
