The Foundation was designated a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is governed by an all volunteer board of trustees. The Lamar University Foundation, Inc. was established in November 1972, by Otho Plummer, H. C. Galloway, Dr. John E. Gray, and Dr. Charles P. Turco, to fund raise, manage, and administer private gifts in support of Lamar University programs.
